How It Works
Drug Discovery Technology
KineMed's proprietary technologies measure the true effects of drugs modulation of kinetics of disease pathways in live animals and patients. In this way, KineMed's technologies provide unique insights for drug development not available to other companies, such as actual cholesterol efflux (RCT) in lipid metabolism. KineMed has nine issued patents (and over 100 pending) on its core technologies and has validated numerous markers in animals and humans.
KineMed's unique approach measures the response to drug treatment of complex, interconnected, physiologic systems (involving all associated genes and proteins).
This response, measured by KineMed's ultra-sensitive stable isotope/mass spectrometric techniques, represents the drug's ability to modulate a central pathway in the etiology of a particular disease.
1. Animals or patients are given a small amount of heavy water or other
stable isotope-labeled tracer.
2. The heavy water or other label mixes evenly and rapidly into body pool.
3. All biomolecules made while the tracer is present are labeled as "new."
3. The cell or biomolecule of interest is then isolated from blood, tissue, saliva
or urine.
3. Labeling is measured via ultra-sensitive mass spectrometry and rates of synthesis or turnover are determined.
