KineMed, Inc. Announces Presentation at the Targeting Metabolic Syndrome Conference in Cambridge, MA

KineMed, Inc., a platform-based drug development and advanced medical diagnostics company announced today that it will be presenting at IBC Life Sciences' Targeting Metabolic Syndrome Conference: Exploring New Developments in Drug Targets, Disease Physiology and Clinical Intervention, part of their drug discovery series. KineMed will present on its KineMarker(TM) assays for measuring insulin resistance, Reverse cholesterol transport, and mitochondrial biogenesis in animals and man as part of the "Technology Showcase" on Wednesday, May 4th at 5:35pm. KineMed's proprietary in vivo KineMarker(TM) assays provide new sensitive and clinically feasible measures of several key metabolic pathways involved in metabolic disorders. KineMed's insulin resistance assay is highly correlated (R2=0.89 in pilot studies) to the euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp and is much easier to apply, thereby improving clinical trial efficiency and patient comfort. KineMed's assays for measuring reverse cholesterol transport and mitochondrial biogenesis in clinical trials are unique to the field and offer new insights into drug action in these two additional pathways that are involved in metabolic disorders.

"We are excited about offering these technologies to drug developers as they can be applied in vivo to screen for compounds acting in these key pathways and to provide data, not available previously, to support clinical development of new drugs targeting metabolic syndrome," said David Fineman, President and CEO of KineMed. "The benefits that these technologies bring to the field include more indepth insight into the actions of compounds currently under development, the ability to stratify patients in clinical trials, and a less invasive and labor-intensive method for measuring insulin resistance in patients and assessing the efficacy of insulin-sensitizing drugs, thereby improving subject enrollment and reducing attrition."
