KineMed Translational Research
Indications Discovery

By targeting metabolic pathways that are the basis for important diseases, KineMed has developed proprietary dynamic targets against which it can screen compounds.

Since a 'hit' against one of KineMed's dynamic targets is actually a change in the kinetics of a key metabolic pathway, such a hit represents that a drug is on-mechanism in the live animal for the particular pathway being assessed. As a translational medicine company, KineMed has developed and validated the ability to perform the symmetrical experiments in humans. With this capability, KineMed is able is able to rapidly demonstrate and confirm that the drug is on-mechanism and has dose response in a "First-in-Man" study.

KineMed applies its proprietary technology to discover new indications for partner’s pipeline compounds and licensing candidates and to rapidly generate IND-enabling efficacy data for therapeutic agents. Drug candidates are identified that directly treat disease etiology. Importantly, safety in human patients has often already been demonstrated for these drug candidates.

KineMed has active "Indication Discovery" collaborations with a number of pharmaceutical companies in which the partner contributes pipeline compounds and KineMed applies its technology and know-how to create joint-development opportunities.

Our internal programs are focused on reverse cholesterol transport, insulin resistance, neurodegenerative diseases, and fibrosis/inflammation. Several other programs are currently in development.

Accomplishments
KineMed's indications discovery program has been remarkably successful. In 2006, we discovered novel therapeutic activities for four compounds.
  Two are in preclinical assessment.
Two are lead candidates for treatment of ALS/Parkinson's disease.

We also have completed or are currently involved in 29 pharma programs across four disease states with 14 companies.
