Active Programs and Areas of Interest

KineMed actively continues to pursue collaborations that advance the clinical application of its translational medicine platform and preserve the company's freedom to operate in multiple therapeutic areas. The company currently has active programs and partnering interest in the areas of:

  • Neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and ALS
  • Nervous system diseases involving neurogenesis, including cognitive and mood disorders
  • Cardio-vascular and metabolic diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and obesity
  • Diseaes affecting connective tissues or involving fibrosis, such as pulmonary fibrosis, kidney fibrosis, scleroderma, emphysema, and osteoarthritis
  • Diseases involving cell proliferation, such as cancer or psoriasis
  • Inflammatory and endocrine diseases, including pharmacological characterization of selective modulators of nuclear hormone receptors such as SERMs, SARMs, SGRMs, and SPPARMs, and subtype-selective Thyroid Hormone Receptor agonists
  • Preclinical and clinical drug development of KineMed compounds for the treatment of:

    • Neurodegenerative diseases associated with abnormal axonal transport, such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and ALS
    • Inhibition of reactive collagen synthesis in fibrotic diseases
    • Peptides to selectively increase HDL functionality and enhance RCT (reverse cholesterol transport) for severe atherosclerosis

Key to KineMed's partnering activity is the company's extensive intellectual property (IP) that broadly covers uses of stable isotopes to determine changes in complex pathways in animals and man. KineMed's scientific founder, Dr. Marc Hellerstein, has long been a leader in this field, and KineMed's IP portfolio is the culmination of his earlier work, exclusively licensed from the University of California, and his continuing work through KineMed.
