Employees at KineMed are working at the cutting edge of drug discovery and development, helping to create tomorrow’s best pharma R&D practices.

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE POSITIONS

Senior Protein Mass Spectrometrist, Dynamic Proteomics

We are looking for a Senior Protein Mass Spectrometrist with extensive expertise in qualitative and quantitative mass spectrometry, particularly LCMS, proteomics and bioinformatics, for our cutting-edge research program in Dynamic Proteomics. The candidate should ideally have 10-15+ years of hands-on experience in LCMS applications utilizing ion-trap, time-of-flight and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers.

The primary responsibilities for this position will be to develop techniques for the tandem mass spectrometric analysis of proteins from biological samples, particularly involving isolation of low-concentration proteins, with the goal of measuring changes in mass isotopomer abundances induced by metabolic labeling in vivo. KineMed has developed advanced algorithms and protocols for analyzing isotope abundances in biomolecules, including proteins, and for calculation of kinetic biomarkers with important biomedical uses, which the candidate will need to learn. KineMed owns extensive intellectual property in this space and is working to expand medical and pharmacologic applications. The candidate will have the opportunity to improve these methods and extend the approach to new classes of proteins, to new biologic matrices and to new biomedical applications. The candidate will participate as a team member or team leader on the proteomics initiative, to work with other KineMed team leaders on projects that interface with LCMS analyses, and will supervise one or more Research Associates.

The candidate will also continue to enhance the mass spectrometry technology in the laboratory to keep up with the latest developments in the field and to develop new methods/techniques to be used in supporting discovery research.

KineMed, Inc. employs stable isotope labeling to determine kinetic parameters such as synthetic rates of biological molecules and the dynamics of biochemical networks, in support of discovery and development of biomarkers for medical diagnosis, drug discovery and development, and personalized medicine.  Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, oncology, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, reproductive medicine, inflammation, fibrosis and others.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Biological Mass Spectrometry, or an M.S. with at least 10 years of experience in Protein Mass Spectrometry and/or a related field is required, with 10-15 years of hands-on experience in protein mass spectrometry, proteomics, and HPLC techniques.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record of innovation and creativity in using MS-based methods for the identification and characterization of proteins in tissue and biological fluids. Additional experience in protein isolation techniques, interfacing mass spectrometry with protein purification and informatics is desirable.  Experience with Agilent 6520 and 6550 LCMS systems is helpful.  Proficiency with oral and written communications and attention to detail is required. Position is available immediately.
